Chapter 148: Pitch's Worst Fear

I sat down against the Medical Hut door, hugging my legs to my chest as I silently cried. Jack and Mark sat next to me, and everyone else kind of just stood or sat around. It had been nearly two hours since Sandy had gone into surgery, and still no response from either Michael or Merida. I slowly rested my forehead on my arms, which were crossed over my knees, and began to sob softly. "You really love him, don't ya?" Jack asked softly, and I looked up at him through the blur of my tears. "Of course I do... I always have... Even when I was controlled by Fearlings... Even when I was Kozmotis... I have always had nothing but love, admiration, inspiration for him... Now my worst fear is coming true, again... He could die... I just want to... I want to help him, or something... It makes me want to scream that I can't... I don't know what I'd do without him..." Jack pulled me close, letting me lay my head in his lap and close my eyes. "Pitch... Are you going to be okay?" I opened my eyes again and looked up to see Katherine again. She had nothing but worry in her eyes. I wanted to reassure her, but no words would come out. "He's going to be fine, I just know it..." She whispered, and I smiled slightly, surprisingly reassured by her words. "If anyone can do it," Mark chuckled, "It's Merida. Who knows how many lives she's had to save, here and in life." I nodded, more reassured than ever. He'll be fine, I told myself firmly, Just believe... I shut my eyes again. Believe... "I believe, I believe, I believe..."





So that very last part with the 'I believe' was a reference to the book series 'The Guardians of Childhood'. If you've read it, you'd know that that's what the movie 'Rise of the Guardians' was based off of.
