Chapter 179: The Journal

"What are they gonna do to Pitch?" Mabel asked worriedly as we sat down. I smiled reassuringly at her. "Prob'ly jus' toss 'im 'round a bit. Bunny's prob'ly smackin' him with a boomerang right 'bout now. That, or Sandy's drillin' 'im into the bed." I laughed at my joke, knowing they wouldn't understand. "Oh..." Mabel said slowly. I turned my attention to Dipper, who was staring down at a journal he had pulled out. He looked up at me for a moment, as if questioning himself, then nodded back down at his journal. He opened it, but I decided not to peek inside in case it was private. He stopped on a certain page, then looked back up at me. He looked back and forth from me and the journal a few times, Mabel and I watching him closely, then nodded again, this time at me. He turned the journal around to me. "You're one of the glowing people." He said in a surprisingly firm tone, and I looked down at the page he was showing me. To my shock... On the page there were a few sketches of people who looked like Nightlight. "Pitch called them... Lightwicks." I looked up at him, unable to form words. With a nod, he offered the journal to me. I read a few notes from the page I was currently on. Celestial beings of light. Kind-natured and almost always smiling. They have the power of moonbeams. Can grow to heights of nine feat, usually nimble, limber, and always pale. Hair colors are always varying shades of gray, silver or white. Eyes shine and glow in the dark. Easily spotted from miles away... How the bloody hell does he know all of this...? I scanned through several more pages, my eyes growing wider and my heart pumping faster with each page. Gnomes, Unicorns, Dragons, Ones From The Stars... I noticed that the pages never seemed to end, as well. The last page filled out, I noticed, was about Pitch. He was studying Pitch...? I closed the book and studied the material, getting a sudden headache when I stared at the logo on the front. It was a patch of clothe, a silvery blue with a golden badge-like emblem. On the badge was a logo of a Moon with a shooting star coming out of the crescent. I had never seen it before, yet my body ached for it. I blinked and tore my gaze away from the cover, unable to stand the pounding in my head any longer as I handed the book back to Dipper. "Does... Wh-Who knows... About this?" Dipper sighed. "No one but me, Mabel, and a few of the creatures from in that book. I... I can tell you want to know why I know, because I only came across all of them on accident. They all said that they were in hiding, because of Fearlings. Yet, they came out of hiding to see me." His voice was soft as he avoided my gaze. "They all said they saw something inside of him, something special that gave them hope." His sister added quietly, also avoiding my gaze in favor of looking at her brother. "Some kind of powerful magic..." The boy whispered. "And because of this," His voice was surprisingly loud and determined this time, "I want to know everything about all of you." He looked up at me, his green eyes more determined than any other pair I had seen before. It startled me. "Well," I found myself saying, "Let me tell you."
