Chapter 149: Success

After about another hour, Michael came out with a smile that lifted my hopes. "The surgery was a smashing success. He should be able to move properly again in a few days." Everyone cheered, and I stood up and hugged Merida's apprentice. "You brilliant boy!" I exclaimed, then let him go. "May I see him? Please?" He smiled and nodded, letting only me in. I quickly but quietly made my way into Sandy's room. Merida was in there, placing a damp rag on my lover's forehead. Sandy's eyes were open, but unfocused and tired. He looked at me with a weak smile, not moving an inch. "My love..." I whispered and his smile grew. There was nothing but love and relief in his eyes. "Probably my best work yet," Merida chuckled as I sat beside the bed Sandy layed on, "It was difficult.. But we did it. Michael, I want to tell you something... You're no longer my apprentice," The man gasped in horror, "You're now my partner. Go home and get some rest, champ." She grinned at his stupefied expression. He suddenly ran outside and began to cheer. She laughed softly and took out one of Sandy's IV's before replacing it. "How long will Sandy be in here?" I asked softly and Merida smiled. "A week, at the most. He's a strong man, he'll make a swift recovery. You can stay here with him for that time, if you'd like." I nodded eagerly and Sandy grinned. I took his hand and squeezed it gently, kissing his cheek. "Success." I whispered joyfully.
